About

The coach behind BYL.

Joseph Lurus is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, a former physical therapy tech, and the owner of Beyond Your Limits Fitness in Homer, Alaska.

My story

From setback to calling.

I grew up playing organized sports. They taught me discipline, work ethic, teamwork, and communication, and they showed me early how much training and good health shape everything else, including my mental health and overall well-being.

Then a major injury on the job in the plumbing industry forced me to stop and rethink my direction. Rebuilding my own body through that process is where I found my real passion: training and helping other people get stronger.

I earned my NASM Certified Personal Trainer credential and went to work as a physical therapy tech for a local company. That experience deepened my understanding of how the body moves and of corrective exercise technique, and it shapes how I coach every client today.

Now I get to do what I love: help people become healthy and functionally strong, and give them the tools to live the life they want.

Coaching philosophy

How I coach.

01

Consistency

Progress comes from showing up, week after week. We build a routine that fits your life, so you can actually keep it.

02

Form first

Every rep is coached. Clean, confident technique comes first, and then we add weight.

03

Long-term strength

The goal isn’t a 30-day sprint. It’s strength you keep for years, and the confidence to use it.
